Recently, the Alberta provincial election concluded with a resounding victory for Premier Ed Stelmach and his Progressive Conservative government and the decimation of the opposition parties, especially the provincial Liberals.
It is now in the interests of all of us, regardless of party affiliation, to hope that the premier and his colleagues will succeed, and to assist them to succeed, in coming to grips with the major challenges and decisions facing this province. |

Russian companies are ready to do more to help rebuild Iraq's infrastructure, particularly its crucial oil and gas sector, President Vladimir Putin said Monday. In a message sent to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Putin also said that the massive West Qurna oil field was of particular interest, and he noted that Russia was expanding its diplomatic presence in Iraq.

A longtime loyalist of slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was elected Pakistan's new Prime Minister Monday. He immediately freed judges detained by President Pervez Musharraf. The release of the judges was a powerful symbol of Musharraf's slipping authority since Bhutto's party swept parliamentary elections last month.
