Longstanding, often mean-spirited U.S.-Canadian trade disputes over lumber, wheat and cattle along with water diversions, National Medicare, Pharmacare, U.S.-led attack on Iraq, Canadian Border, Northern and National Sovereignty, Canadian Diversity, Canada’s Constitution and Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms have soured relations between our two nations especially during the Bush Administration.
Let’s not forget about attacking Canada for political gain during an American election which should be pointed out that the present U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins and his predecessor U.S. Ambassador Paul Cellucci threaten Canadian Political Parties that there would be repercussions if they did it here in Canada during our past elections. |

A new era in Russia is set to begin, with 42-year-old Dmitry Medvedev to become the country`s next president. The Central Election Commission says he`s gained 70.2% of votes, while his closest rival, Communist Gennady Zyuganov, has just 17.8%. In all, 98% of votes have been counted.
Liberal Democrat Vladimir Zhirinovsky is in third with 9.4% and Democratic Party leader Andrey Bogdanov has 1.3%. |

| Alberta, Canada's oil sands contain an estimated 174 billion barrels of oil. Meanwhile, the White House has urged Canada to pull out all the stops to increase oil sands production by 400%. And capital investment in the sands has been unstoppable. |

As they go at each other in Ohio, presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama seem to be suggesting that the North American Free Trade Agreement has been a disaster.
Both Democrats have vowed to renegotiate the agreement with Mexico and Canada or pull out of it altogether. |

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is on a nuclear power selling spree in the Middle East.
He has recently pledged to assist the civilian nuclear programs of three oil-producing countries in this conflict-prone region: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. These pledges were preceded by signed offers of nuclear aid to Algeria and Libya, two other oil exporters. |

| The Iranian authorities are continuing to harass activists working to defend women's rights. Ronak Safarzadeh and Hana Abdi – two Kurdish Iranian activists – currently remain detained without charge or trial. They were arrested in October and November 2007 for peacefully exercising their rights. |
